Seriously, Who Is She?

Hello! My name is Kateryna — or K.A.Teryna. I’m a writer and illustrator. I write speculative fiction, usually in short form. Recently, two of my collections were published: in Russian, All My Birds by Elena Shubina’s Imprint, and in English, Black Hole Heart and Other Stories by Fairwood Press, translated by Alex Shvartsman. Also my Italan collection Medusa was published a few years ago by Future Fiction.

I write about anything that comes to mind, in all sorts of speculative genres. But quite often, my prose is described as weird fiction. I don’t mind — I actually like that word! If you want to get acquainted with my writing gently and easily, start with Songs of the Snow Whale (Reactor). If you’re not afraid of challenges and want to dive straight into the deep end, start with Serpent Carriers (Clarkesworld) Just don’t say I didn’t warn you!

I also draw — pretty much anything. I mostly work digitally, but sometimes I use paper and fineliner. Once, I spent two hours at Père Lachaise Cemetery sketching postcards, which I later sent to my friends in different countries. Yes, I love cemeteries! But I love drawing even more. Especially monsters. We’ve already established that I’m weird, right? So if you have a commission for a monster — don’t hesitate to write to me. I’ll move any other project aside for a monster! Still, most of the time I draw not for work, but as a way to relax from everything else that fills my life. Because I also have a day job — which I won’t talk about here. There’s already too much of it in my life.

And of course — Chekhov the Cat. He’s the best thing in my life, so he simply must be mentioned everywhere possible.
